Breaking News: Robert “Bobby-O” Oliveira Arrested in Newport
I’m pretty sure we’re breaking this first, for what it’s worth…
School Committee candidate Robert T. Oliveira, who recently filed an open meetings complaint with the RI attorney general’s office after a June 26 meeting of the Newport School Committee, which according to many, was not held in compliance with the law, apparently has a much bigger issue to deal with.
Probably to the glee of certain local bloggers which shall remain nameless, I’ve learned though extremely reliable sources with connections to law enforcement in Newport, that Robert “Bobby-O” Oliveira was arrested earlier today.
His arrest apparently stems from a previously filed harassment complaint from last year involving a girlfriend (the statute of limitations has not yet expired). I’m not exactly sure what took so long for the police to act on the original complaint. However, I do find the timing to be extremely peculiar, considering his recent flurry of activity vis-a-vis the Newport School Committee, both in regard to his very legitimate Open Records request (which caused the school committee to hold their meeting over), as well as him being a current candidate for School Committee.
I should have a copy of the actual arrest report imminently. In addition, I believe that the Newport Daily News will have something published about it in Tuesday’s edition. Not sure if it rises to “Projo-worthiness,” but since Bobby-O is something of a known quantity here in the local blogosphere, I though I’d let you know first. More to come!
